Bangkok
The hub of the business world in Thailand, Bangkok is one of the most pleasantcities in the world, due to its friendly people. Thecapital of Thailand, its charm stems from the social climate and the tolerance to other cultures that so typically, characterizes the entire country.
Cha-Am
Cha-am is very much a Thai resort. 178 km from Bangkok, it is quiet on weekdays, busier on weekends and bustling on holidays. With no real center, the town stretches along the length of the white-sand beach, said to be Thailand's longest. However, the post office and market are near the train station, and these three landmarks constitute the old center.
Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is Thailand's northern capital. Various countries have consulates here, and visitors have an excellent choice of accommodation. The climate is pleasantly cooler than Bangkok's, even cold at night around New Year. Still, the days are hot, and along with the city's public pools, big hotels open theirs to non-guests. The nightlife here is good and varied, as is the array of international restaurants.
Hua Hin
Part of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Hua Hin is becoming increasingly popular, although it has all but escaped the gaudy excesses of Pattaya and Patong. The town boasts accommodation to suit all budgets, with a good selection of resorts spread along its white sandy beach.
Krabi
Krabi has a nice seaside atmosphere with cheap accommodation, tasty Thai/Moslem food and friendly people. Its striking rock formation islands and beautiful beaches made the area a pirate haven in bygone days. Now mainly a stopover for tourists going to outlying islands, the town itself is nice for short visits.
Koh Samui
Koh Samui is Thailand 's third largest island at 247 sq. km., and during the last decade it has become one of Southeast Asia 's premier tourist destinations. Samui sits snugly in the gulf of Thailand, surrounded by other island gems like Koh Pha-ngan and Koh Tao, and is located 84 km, east of Surat Thani, the provincial capital on the mainland, with soft-sand beaches shaded by towering palms, delicious fresh seafood and a vibrant nightlife
Pattaya
Only two hours from Bangkok, this resort city caters to every whim. Lazy afternoons on the beach, go-karting, paintballing, golf, and full steam ahead nightlife are just a few of the entertainments provided. Pattaya is purpose made for holiday fun and provides it with the utmost convenience.
Phang-Nga
Though the town is quiet, it is surrounded by natural parkland, featuring caves, uninhabited islands, coral reefs and archaeological sites. While unremarkable in itself, Phang-Nga town is surrounded by hauntingly beautiful national parks with striking rock formations, limestone cliffs and uninhabited islands.
Phuket
Thailand' s largest island is a wonderland of wildlife and rainforest fringed by white sand beaches with some of the world' s premier resorts. Phuket's limestone cliffs and palm-fringed tropical beaches are its biggest attractions. Sunseekers flock to its blue waters, with many enjoying the shopping and nightlife of vibrant Patong. A few quieter beaches to investigate are Karon, Kata, Rawai and Surin.
